For each 1 lb of damsons, use 1 pt water and 1 lb sugar
Either prick each fruit several times, or freeze them and use directly from frozen.
Put the fruit and water into a pan, bring to the boil, and simmer until the skins split and the fruit softens (should be around 30-40 minutes).
Strain the liquid into a clean pan.
Add the sugar and stir over a medium heat until dissolved, then bring to a rapid boil for 3 minutes.
Bottle immediately into sterilised warmed bottles.
