The Morning After…

Following our concerns regarding any new government’s plans for the countryside after the General Election we wrote to a wide range of candidates of all of the main parties. Given their priorities was it unreasonable to have expected a response? Even if it that response was along the lines of   “Sorry, we are very busy being very important in London at the moment. I will ask one of our shiny new junior supporters to try to find time to respond to you once they have delivered the afternoon coffee round”

In fact, it is with great disappointment that we can report that out of all the major parties, only the Reform candidate bothered to respond.

Thank you for your thoughtful email and for outlining the critical challenges faced by our rural communities. I fully support our British farmers and their essential role in ensuring our nation’s food security. “No farmer, no food” is a sentiment that I wholeheartedly endorse, and I recognise that food security is paramount for our nation’s well-being.

I want to assure you that if elected, I will work with rural communities, not against them. Our policies must foster unity and cooperation rather than ideological division. The work that farmers, environmental protectors, and wildlife managers do is vital, and it deserves greater understanding and support.

Regarding your specific concerns, I pledge my support for the following policies:

  • Respect for Rural Communities: Rural communities are the backbone of our nation, and their needs and way of life must be respected and supported.
  • Tackling Rural Crime: Addressing the blight of rural crime is essential to ensure the safety and well-being of those living in rural areas.
  • Championing British Farmers and Producers: I am committed to supporting our farmers and local producers, ensuring they have the resources and policies needed to thrive.
  • Wildlife Management and Field Sports: Recognizing the role of wildlife management and the value of trail hunting, shooting, and fishing is crucial. These activities contribute to biodiversity and the rural economy.
  • Delivering a Connected Countryside: Ensuring that rural areas are well-connected with proper infrastructure, fair funding, decent services, and housing is vital for their sustainability and growth.

The Reform UK Contract includes a strong commitment to supporting British agriculture and ensuring that rural communities receive the attention and resources they deserve. We aim to create policies that promote food security, environmental protection, and economic growth in rural areas.

Thank you for bringing these important issues to my attention. I look forward to working together to build a stronger and more united future for our rural communities.

So, there you have it, we will wait and see whether these fine words are backed by actions
